Beginner and Intermediate Group
The Beginner and Intermediate Group (B/IG) rider training program kicks off the 2011 cycling season with the first ride on Tuesday April 5th.
If you are just getting into cycling, want to learn more about the sport, or would like to meet new friends to ride with then the B/IG ride is for you. B/IG rides are designed to be both educational and fun. Each week before the ride a different cycling related topic is presented. Topics range from riding in a group (pace line) to bicycle maintenance and repair. Riding skills are discussed and practiced while out on the ride that follows.
For the ride the group will break into two or three smaller groups of riders with similar ability to ride an appropriate pace, route and distance. Depending on the group the typical ride will range from 10 to 20 miles. The route usually follows valley back roads, avoiding fast moving vehicles as much as possible. We often take new riders along the River Trail to focus on riding skill and not be distracted by road traffic. All ride groups are accompanied by a skilled leader - no one is ever left behind. Road bikes, mountain bikes and hybrid bikes are all welcome on the Tuesday BIG ride.
For 2011 B/IG rides are scheduled every Tuesday at 6:00pm from April 5th through September 13th. All Tuesday rides will depart from Rio Plaza. Additional B/IG rides are held some weekends to add variation to distance and terrain. Check the club calendar for weekend ride times and locations.
