Jim's Scenic Challenge - 31 miles

Named after Jim Weaver, renowned climber and the perennial leader of this ride with over 1,000 feet of vertical change in central El Paso.

Depart from the Chamizal National Memorial and wind your way through central El Paso to Brown Steet. The climbing starts with a quick ascent up Brown to Rim Road. The climbing has just started as you begin your ascent over Scenic Drive. Stop at the pull off at the top of Scenic for a panoramic view of El Paso and Juarez, Mexico. Descend Scenic with caution as many quck turns await you. At the bottom of Scenic Drive turn left (north) on to Alabama.

Think the climing is over? Well not just yet, Alabama and Magnetic streets have a few more climbs for you. Becareful to time the traffic lights at the bottom of the many ups and downs along Alabama or else you will find yourself starting a climb from a dead stop. If you want to add more climbing to the adventure take an out and back detour up McKelligon Canyon. Alabama eventually merges with Magnetic where you continue the roller coaster ride. Stay on Magnetic to where it dead ends at Honda Pass. Take a quick stop at the 7-11 on the corner before the very quick descent down Hondo Pass to the frontage road along the Patriot Freeway. Turn right (south) on the frontage road and follow it to Dyer. From there meander your way through central El Paso back to the Chamizal.

With any luck Jim will be waiting for you with a cooler full of his favorite beverage.
